What is non-surgical rhinoplasty and should you really try it?

A look at how non-surgical nose jobs actually work, the benefits and the results.

In the past, if you wanted a new nose – a stronger profile, more symmetrical or smoother – your only option was rhinoplasty, which involved surgery. There were no other options available.

Using the science and art of dermal fillers, we now have a far less invasive and non-surgical option, enabling the transformation of your entire facial profile.

Working with a similar hyaluronic acid filler as used for lips and cheeks, this treatment can correct curves, bumps, and lumps, making your nose appear more defined and smoother. The results can be transformative, providing new confidence and pleasure for people self-conscious about their nose and appearance.

The before-and-after photos are often so unbelievable that some of my patients ask how it is possible to achieve such great results with this procedure.

Unpacking the benefits of this treatment over traditional rhinoplasty

Being non-surgical, the benefits are less risk, less downtime, fewer side effects and yet with very similar results. Surgical rhinoplasty, however, takes a month or longer to recover from and results are not always perfect.

  1. The procedure is relatively painless with an anaesthetic cream is used to minimise discomfort and the filler also includes a small amount of local anaesthetic
  2. There is relatively no downtime with only some minor bruising or redness to be expected which normally lasts no more than a few days
  3. The cost of the procedure is significantly less than rhinoplasty making it far more affordable for most
  4. The treatment is temporary and a more permanent look can be managed with repeat treatments.

However, it’s important to know that whilst non-surgical rhinoplasty is suitable for addressing your visual appearance, it does not address the functional. If there are internal issues such as a deviated nasal septum, or enlarged turbinates for example, which may be impacting on airflow, then these issues need to be addressed surgically by an ENT specialist.

What does the procedure entail?

After a detailed visual assessment and consultation of a patient’s facial proportions, profile, ethnicity and of course their desires, the dermal filler is injected at various points along the nose. For example, by carefully injecting dermal filler above and below the ‘bump’ on the nose, I can very easily make the most ‘hooked’ of noses, look straight. My technique is light-handed to ensure the procedure is as painless as possible. Discomfort is considered mild by most patients.

My technique is highly creative and by using my eye for symmetry, angles and facial contours, I achieve very precise outcomes. It is a sculptural process and technique that I have perfected over 15 years of experience in cosmetic medicine.

The process normally takes under 30 minutes and the results are instantaneous.

What can it can be used to treat?

Non-surgical rhinoplasty can be used to:

  • Camouflage a nasal bump
  • Heighten the profile of a flat nose
  • Lift the tip of the nose
  • Reduce the depth of the frown-nasal angle
  • Create a more symmetrical look.

How safe is the procedure?

Non-surgical rhinoplasty is considered an advanced treatment and should only be performed by a practitioner who has many years of experience in performing dermal filler treatments – and who has been trained in this particular procedure.

The nose is richly vascularised with blood vessels and so knowledge of the vascular anatomy is of utmost importance, as is safe technique, to ensure complications such as skin breakdown or tissue necrosis do not occur.

How long does the treatment last?

The treatment generally lasts 15-18 months.
